SMBCC vs East Woodhay II – 02.06.18

4 Out of 5 as SMB Win by 14 runs!

🏏4 Wins from 5 for the Saturday XI this season now with a 14 run win!. Asked to bat on a rock hard wicket in the picturesque village of East End. SMB fought hard to get to 158-7 at tea. Useful contributions from the entire order helped. Rob King top scoring with 39, debutant George Cotterel added 35 and Andy Stevens marshalling the lower order to finish unbeaten on 26*. Some sharp accurate bowling from East Woodhay made it hard to get in on what looked a belting wicket. 250 seemingly the par score.

An early breakthrough from Martin Clay set the tone, and 2 wickets in Alex Aldridge‘s first over saw East Woodhay 49-3 at drinks. Some good running from the batsman saw the scoreboard tick to 98-4 with 12 remaining but some outstanding fielding from the entire SMB team saw Woodhay bowled out for 144 with 4 balls remaining. Wickets for all of the SMB bowlers. Aldridge the pick (3-20) special mention to Jack White for an outstanding catch in the outfield.

Alex Aldridge won the vegetable 🍆 this week for forgetting his spikes and constantly shouting DOWN! DOWN! DOWN! to every fielder as the ball game towards them.

Andy Stevens was the recipient of the man of the match award for his 26* and some very handy words in the skippers ear throughout the innings.

A proper game of cricket for SMB, an even better victory when the opposition said they couldn’t remember the last time a total under 200 was defended successfully! As you can see we enjoyed a couple of pints in the Jack Russell inn on the way home! #smbcc #cricket #getthegameon #hantscl #jackrussell
